Feast of the Nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ

December 24th 2009 (Morning): The Royal Hours (Paramon) beginning at 9:00 a.m. followed immediately by the Vesperal Divine Liturgy of St. Basil the Great.

December 24th 2009 (Evening): Vespers at 6:00 p.m. Festal Orthros beginning at 7:00 p.m. followed immediately at approximately 8:00 p.m. by the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom.

NOTE: The St. Nicholas Church Choir “Christmas Concert” will take place following the Divine Liturgy in the Church at approximately 9:00 p.m. After the Concert, everyone is welcome to some Refreshments & Sweets in the Church Hall.

Church School Christmas Party  

 

On Sunday, December 20th following the Divine Liturgy, the Church School will be hosting their annual Christmas Party: Lots of food & Presents & a special visit from Santa Claus! All Children Welcome!!!

Sunday, December 6 2009 (regular Sunday hours) – Hierarchal Divine Liturgy presided by His Grace Bishop ALEXANDER. Followed by the St. Nicholas Annual Choir Brunch in the Church Hall. For tickets and information about the Brunch, please contact the Church Office.

Turkey Lunch & Apple Pies

The Annual Turkey Lunch will be held on Sunday November 8th following the Divine Liturgy in the Church Hall. (Donation: Adults $15.00, Children 12 years and under: $5.00). Donors to sponsor the turkey dinner are needed. Also, don't forget to pre order your Apple Pies! 1 Pie for $8.00 or 3 Pies for $20.00. Pie Bake will be on Sunday October 18th following the Divine Liturgy in the Church Hall.


Antiochian Women

The Antiochian Women will be hosting a dinner on November 01, 2009 in the Church Hall, in honor of Helene Zakaib. For tickets and information please contact Sylvia Mefrige.  (Next Meeting: October 7th)

Altar Servers Pizza Luncheon

The Annual Altar Servers Pizza Luncheon will be held on Sunday October 25th 2009 following the Divine Liturgy in the Church Hall. All are welcome! Please contact the Church Office to make sure that your relatives who served in the Altar of St. Nicholas Church are recorded in the special bulletin, and if you noticed any errors from last year’s list to please inform us.

Installation of Officers

The Installation of Officers will take place following the Divine Liturgy on Sunday September 20th followed by an extended Coffee Hour in the Church Hall. Note: The Procession of the Cross will also take place prior to the Installation, as this year the Feast of the Cross is on a Monday (Sept. 14), therefore we will celebrate on the Leave-taking of the Feast. Please bring flowers at the beginning of the Divine Liturgy.

Welcome Abouna!

We would like to extend a warm welcome to Rev. Father Mounif Homsi, who is serving with us today. Fr. Mounif is one of Fr. Mark’s past professors at St. John of Damascus Institute of Theology, University of Balamand – Lebanon. He specializes in Pastoral Theology, Byzantine Music and English Second Language. Presently, Fr. Mounif is the Priest of Our Lady of Kaftoun Monastery for Nuns in North Lebanon. Welcome Abouna!

Guest Speaker for ALL Parishioners of St. Nicholas Church

On Friday September 4 2009 in the evening (exact time to be announced next Sunday) we will have a Guest Speaker: Father Mounif Homsi, to give us a spiritual talk in English and Arabic (topic to be announced next Sunday). Refreshments will be served in the Church Hall following the talk, which will be in the Church. Fr. Mounif is a former professor at St. John of Damascus Orthodox Institute of Theology at Balamand University. He specialized in Pastoral Theology, Byzantine Music, and English Second Language. He was one of Fr. Mark’s professors at Balamand and is visiting Montreal from September 2nd – 14th. He will also be serving with Fr. Mark on Sunday September 13 at St. Nicholas. Throughout those 2 weeks, Fr. Mounif will be giving daily lectures at St. Mary’s Church in Arabic (schedule will be posted in our bulletin).

57th Annual Parish Life Conference (PLC)

We are pleased to announce that St. Nicholas Church will be hosting the 57th Annual Parish Life Conference in Montreal (July 1st – July 4th 2010). The 3 Co-Chairs for the Conference are: Lorne Zakaib, Larry Zakaib, and Michael Lawand. On Thursday September 1st 2009 at 7:00 p.m. in the Church Hall, there will be an open meeting to discuss the planning of the PLC, your input is important to us, we look forward to seeing you!

Dormition Fast

The Dormition Fast is from August 1st – August 15th, ending at the Divine Liturgy celebrated on August 15th in the morning which is the Feast of the Dormition of the Theotokos. During the Fast  all meat and dairy products are abstained from and we observe a daily Paraklisis service to the Virgin Mary every evening, see the following Schedule of Services for more information. If you would like to confess before the Feast, you can do so following any of the evening Services by appointment with Fr. Mark.

Job Well Done!

 

Congratulations and a job well done to our Bible Bowl Team Nicholas Habak, Julien Zakaib, Alexa Zakaib, Christian Kishfy and their coach Larry Zakaib who represented our Church at the Parish Life Conference (PLC) June 25th to June 28th 2009, in Niagara Falls. Our Parish has been selected to host the PLC next year 2010.


Soul Saturday June 6th 2009

Orthros at 10:00 a.m. followed by the Divine Liturgy at approximately 11:00 a.m. ending with the General Memorial Service and departure to Mount Royal Cemetery. For names to be commemorated during the Service, please have them brought to the Church Office by June 3rd and make an effort to come to the Service. Individual Loaves of bread will not be passed-out, you may bring in your own loaves to be blessed and taken home that day. At the Cemetery, we will meet at approximately 12:45 p.m. in Section “G” in front of the tomb of Fr. Michael Zarbatany for the General Memorial Service (including any names given to Fr. Mark). Then Fr. Mark will visit and bless individual graves with the families who are present and organize the route with them at that time. To guarantee the graves of your loved-ones are visited, please be present at the above mentioned meeting in Section G to know Fr. Mark’s walking route.
